Understanding the wind seasons in Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas offers a unique blend of thermal and trade winds, creating ideal wingfoiling conditions:

  • Thermal breeze: builds from late morning into a steady afternoon wind (2pm–6pm)

  • Trade winds: stronger in winter and summer, often reaching 20+ knots

  • Minimal tidal variation, warm tropical water (26–29°C), a protected lagoon, and perfect downwind conditions

That’s why we plan all sessions in the afternoon, when the wind builds, and confirm the exact timing 48 hours in advance based on conditions. Mornings are reserved for rest, theory, simulator work, or tow-in foil sessions.

  • Waves: Great period for riders looking to improve their freefly skills

  • Who is it for?

Beginners: very fast progression thanks to consistent thermal winds and radio coaching

Intermediate riders: perfect for improving jibes, tacks, and freefly

  • Vibe & logistics: High tourist season. Flights and accommodations are slightly more expensive, but the spots are spacious and rarely crowded on the water.

Tips: Secure your Full Wing or Progression Pack at least 4 weeks in advance.

Keep your schedule flexible—we’ll optimize your sessions based on the best wind conditions.

For experienced riders, don’t miss a downwind run to Cayo Levantado and ride alongside whales.

October – December : rain period

  • Wind: 8–15 knots, more inconsistent

  • Who is it for? Relaxed discovery, slow-travelers, and riders who want to mix SUP foil, tow foil, and wingfoil.

  • Logistics : Low season → more attractive accommodation rates
