Understanding the wind seasons in Las Terrenas
Las Terrenas offers a unique blend of thermal and trade winds, creating ideal wingfoiling conditions:
Thermal breeze: builds from late morning into a steady afternoon wind (2pm–6pm)
Trade winds: stronger in winter and summer, often reaching 20+ knots
Minimal tidal variation, warm tropical water (26–29°C), a protected lagoon, and perfect downwind conditions
That’s why we plan all sessions in the afternoon, when the wind builds, and confirm the exact timing 48 hours in advance based on conditions. Mornings are reserved for rest, theory, simulator work, or tow-in foil sessions.
